The first round of the Big East Tournament will cap off tonight with a showdown between the No. 6 seed Villanova and the No. 11 seed Georgetown.

It was a forgettable season to say the least for Georgetown, who finished 2-18 in conference play and 7-24 overall. It also completely fell apart down the stretch of the regular season, losing its final three games by an average of 20 points.

Meanwhile, Villanova has failed to live up to expectations in 2023. Sitting at just 10-10 in Big East play and 16-15 overall, the Wildcats will need to go on a run and win the tournament if they want their name announced on Selection Sunday.

Let’s dive into the odds for the game and then I’ll give you my best bet.

Villanova Wildcats

Georgetown vs. Villanova prediction and pick

Not only is Villanova a better team skill and talent wise, but it also has a huge advantage from a stylistic perspective tonight. Let’s start with skill and ability.

Georgetown enters the game ranking 320th in effective field goal percentage and 329th in defensive efficiency. Those numbers are beyond ugly.

Now, let’s take a look at the biggest advantage Villanova has; 3-point shooting. The Wildcats, as we all know, love to shoot the three ball. They rank 8th in the country in three-point shot rate. Now, they face a Georgetown team that’s 357th in college basketball in opponent three-point FG%.

The Hoyas are allowing teams to hit 38.8% of their shots from beyond the arc. That’s almost 40%! That ranks 357th out of 364 in the country.

Villanova will have its way with Georgetown tonight and I expect nothing short of a blowout.
