Dallas Cowboys fans, and even former NFL head coach Herm Edwards, weren’t pleased that the team’s official Twitter account blamed Dak Prescott for their Divisional Round loss.
The Dallas Cowboys were once again sent home early from the playoffs, as owner Jerry Jones’ quest for his fourth Super Bowl title continues. On Sunday, the Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers by the score of 19-12.
Quarterback Dak Prescott received most of the blame for the team’s loss, considering he threw two interceptions and the fact that the offense couldn’t do much against San Francisco’s defense. In fact, the team’s official Twitter account cited Prescott’s two turnovers and “self-inflicted wounds” as the reason why they lost.

This caught the ire of some Cowboys fans, in addition to former NFL head coach Herm Edwards, who expressed his disbelief over the team’s social media account placing blame on Prescott.
Fans rip Cowboys Twitter account for placing blame on Dak Prescott for Divisional Round loss
“That’s unfortunate, it really is when you think about somebody in the organization, and you’re entitled to your opinion, but this thing is called team,” said Edwards. “When you pick out a certain individual to say you want to lay the blame on him, personally, I don’t believe in that. I just don’t, that’s not how I’m built. This is a little bit of a Dallas Cowboys problem, it’s always someone else’s fault. Let me place the blame on one person because it’s not about us as a football team.”
Now let’s look at some of the reactions from Cowboys fans and others who spotted the team’s tweet placing the blame on Prescott.
in what world is it 100% on him… ya, right. try again. 👎🏻

Could we maybe hire someone who likes our team to do SM?! The call is coming from inside the house!

The team’s official website? Owwwwwwwww … don’t see that often. Almost as if the petulant owner took over the keyboard for himself. https://t.co/XFXmVlqhX8

Prescott entered the Divisional Round coming off of an impressive performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In that game, Prescott completed 25-of-33 pass attempts for 305 yards and four touchdowns, while running for 24 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. He didn’t have similar success against the vaunted 49ers defense, that allowed the fewest yards and points per game throughout the regular-season.
The Cowboys offense did take a hit when running back Tony Pollard suffered a high ankle sprain and a fractured fibula that forced him to be carted off of the football field and sidelined him for the remainder of the game.
Prescott threw for 206 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while completing 23-of-37 pass attempts in the loss.
After the game, Prescott did say that his play contributed to the loss. He said “I got to be better. I don’t know any other way to sugar coat it.”
There are Cowboys fans that are done with Prescott as the starting quarterback, while others want to give him another chance. Dallas’ offseason will be one to follow, mostly to see if they make a big move to bolster their roster.
