SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – Simpson County doesn’t have a public and designated storm shelter, but next year that might change.
Director of Simpson County Emergency Management Bob Palmer said he’s already applied for 1 shelter that he hopes to hold 3oo people. Palmer said the application has passed the state level and now awaits approval for FEMA to use hazard mitigation funds to construct the shelter which he is hopeful will pass through and break ground next year.
Palmer’s dream is to have 3 total and said he has 2 more applications ready to go pending a presidential announcement. But he is confident that the first shelter will be able to be situated in Franklin’s city park within the coming years.
